Need some inspiration on what to look for? Here’s what our resident personal stylist, Bec Lenthall, had to say about summer style earlier this year.
What kind of trends can we expect to see?
- Butter yellow, reds, chocolate browns, soft blues, pastels and leopard print
- Bright and colourful graphic tees
- Lots of textures – crochet, raffia and straw in shoes and bags
- Breezy, flowy silhouettes in lightweight fabrics
- Tailored shorts, knee-length shorts
- Beaded jewellery and jewellery stacks.
What is different about this summer vs. last summer?
Previous years were bright and bold and leaned towards casual, bold, and eclectic looks. The current style is more muted and earthy, focusing on minimalism, craftsmanship, and timeless styles.
Do we tend to see trends that were popular in North America/Europe’s summer?
Fashion is so global these days, but it’s always interesting to see how trends adapt to suit local preferences and climates. Europe and North America have been all about oversized blazers, chunky sandals, and playful patterns.
We’re seeing those same trends pop up here now, but with a more relaxed, beachy feel that’s perfect for South Australia’s warmer weather and outdoor lifestyle.
How would you describe South Australian style right now?
South Australia loves a beautiful mix of practicality with a sense of effortless style. Think laid-back yet sophisticated. People here love to find the balance between looking polished while also being able to enjoy our relaxed outdoor lifestyle.
Easy-to-wear dresses, stylish shorts, and versatile separates that can take you from a day at the beach to a casual lunch or dinner with friends are popular with clients right now.
What advice would you give to someone trying to discover their personal style?
Discovering your personal style is such a rewarding journey – it’s all about expressing who you are and feeling good in what you wear. The best place to start is by aligning your style with your lifestyle. Think about what your days look like and the kinds of occasions you’re dressing for most often.
Your wardrobe should work for you, with pieces that not only fit into your life but also make you feel confident and true to yourself. Start with some great foundation pieces like well-fitted jeans, versatile tops, and comfortable yet stylish shoes – that can take you from one setting to the next with ease.
Experiment with your style
From there, don’t be afraid to play around! Your style will evolve, and stepping out of your comfort zone is where the magic happens. Try on new colours, patterns, or silhouettes, and see what feels right.
Think about your personality. Are you drawn to bold, statement pieces, or do you lean towards a more pared-back, minimalist aesthetic? Creating a mood board on Pinterest or cutting out looks you love from magazines is a great way to pinpoint what speaks to you. And don’t forget the power of accessories – they can transform any outfit and really make it your own.
At the end of the day, personal style is about feeling amazing in what you wear – not about keeping up with trends or worrying about anyone else’s expectations. If you’re feeling stuck, working with a stylist can help bring clarity and confidence to your wardrobe and make the whole process so much easier.
