Christmas Tree Showdown – a festive expression of art for local school students.

Why have one Christmas tree when you can have 13? The Christmas tree competition is back at the Myer Centre this season, and they’re waiting for your vote.

Head to the Upper Ground Level to see the wooden tree ‘farm’, hand-crafted by the Men’s Shed Parafield Inc and decorated by the students from 13 schools in South Australia.

Not only do you get to support the talented students and future artists who designed these trees. You’ll also go into the draw to win a kid’s summer fun pack, valued at $150.

Plus, the school with the most votes will win a games bundle, valued at $200. Now that’s the special holiday magic we all love.

Lia Wilson, Marketing Manager at the Myer Centre, shares, “We love inviting schools to participate in this event, as the Myer Centre is passionate about engaging with our community.”

When asked about her favourite Christmas Tree this year, she replied, “I have so many favourites! It’s really difficult to choose because each entry is unique and incredibly creative.”

Vote for your favourite tree

Remember when you were young? Make this year the Christmas they always remember… the year they first knew they were an artist.

Virginia Primary School (the 2023 winner, for their Native Birds tree)

We have indigenous design features on this year’s tree. This was done in consultation with our Indigenous Education Teacher, who advised us on the cultural appropriateness of the design.

Pedare

The students were inspired by Keith Haring USA Pop Artist. Using a limited colour palette, students applied posca markers with the theme of Rocking around the Christmas Tree to bring the fun and cheer of Christmas to all.

For Pedare’s second tree, the students focused on shape and colour mixing. The colours were blended a squeegee over sectioned of areas. They painted the bounding shapes and added sponged white shapes to indicate tinsel over the bounding lines. The playful and bright tree brings happiness to all.

Good Shepherd

The technique they used on their tree involved mark making.

Mount Barker Primary School

The Inclusions Unit got involved in decorating their own tree, stamping their hands into it.

Glenelg Primary School

We have used completely recycled materials that were destined for landfill.

Fulham Gardens

It’s a gingerbread house, with gingerbread men!

Vote for your top tree, or better yet, come and see them for yourself first.
