Discover Nature Portals: A Journey into Abstract Macro Photography at the Myer Centre

Friday 2 – Sat 31 August – Level 1 (Windows next to Adelaide Bridal Courture)

The Myer Centre is thrilled to present Nature Portals, a captivating exhibition by acclaimed photographer Andy Rasheed. This stunning collection offers a unique glimpse into the intricate beauty of Australian plants, captured through the lens of macro photography. Running throughout August, the exhibition invites viewers to embark on a fantastical journey into the heart of nature’s wonders.

An Exploration of Natural Light and Color

Nature Portals is a testament to Andy Rasheed’s dedication and artistry. Over two and a half months, Andy meticulously shot over eight thousand frames to select the twenty final photographs featured in this exhibition. Utilising only natural light, a single macro lens at 1:1 magnification, and a wide-open aperture, he reveals the vibrant colors and extremes of refracted light that transform ordinary plants into extraordinary visions. Each image serves as a portal, inviting viewers to experience the atmospheric states and mesmerising details of the natural world.

A Mastery of In-Camera Techniques

Andy’s expertise in macro photography spans over three decades. His innovative in-camera techniques, developed and refined through years of practice, allow him to create stunning compositions with minimal post-production. Observing an area roughly thirty-five millimeters across, Andy captures what he sees through the lens with remarkable accuracy, resulting in prints that closely resemble the original scenes. This commitment to authenticity and precision is evident in every piece of the Nature Portals collection.

The Joy of Creation

For Andy, photography is a joyous and spontaneous process. His practice involves developing an uncompromised visual language through a blend of dedicated effort and intuitive creativity. The results are breathtaking images that celebrate the intricate beauty of nature and the joy of artistic expression.
